Community representatives in the Warialda and Bingara regions of the Gwydir Shire were clearly inspired to attract more RVers into the region after attending RV Industry Workshops last week.
Two RV Industry Workshops were presented by the Australian Caravan Club (ACC) at the invitation of the Gwydir Shire Council, at Warialda New South Wales on 5 April 2017, and at Bingara on 6 April 2017.
“Our RV Industry Workshops are aimed at assisting local communities to understand what many RVers may be looking for when visiting and staying in a region, whether for a short or long term stay, and what their requirements and needs might be,” said ACC Chairman Craig Humphrey. “The Workshops also present facts and figures showing the economic benefits that can be gained by a community that can attract RVers.”
More than 40 community representatives attended the Workshops at Warialda and Bingara.
One of the Workshop presenters was ACC Deputy Chairman Tom Smith. “The Warialda Workshop was especially inspiring,” said Mr Smith. “Community representatives present engaged in constructive discussions following the presentation and started immediately working together to identify potential sites that could accommodate freedom camping or budget camping to entice RVers to stay in the town and support local businesses.”
Warialda currently has a rest area about a kilometre from town which allows a 24 hour stay, plus a caravan park in the town. “Plans are now a foot to improve another rest area near town and to develop longer term campsites on the banks of the creek where RVers might want to camp and stay for longer periods.”
“The feasibility of achieving this and who would be responsible for maintaining the freedom camping sites were all discussed. Further planning and discussions will be required by the local community, and a fair bit of ground work will have to be done. I am hopeful that the final result will be something that will benefit not only the Warialda community, but also RVers visiting the town.”
Mr Smith said that he received positive feedback from the Bingara Workshop participants about the economic benefits that Bingara businesses have received as a consequence of the popular freedom camping along the Gwydir River that was voted the number one freedom camping site by a national RV magazine.
The ACC will be holding its 2017 National Muster at Bingara in October.
“We are receiving a number of enquiries about our RV Industry Workshops. Our Club is happy to enter into discussions with local authorities and Chambers of Commerce about presenting at Workshops in their communities.”
“A big thank you to Tom and Sandra Smith, and John and Kathy Snell for their hard work and efforts, including travelling to the Gwydir Shire, to present these Workshops,” Mr Humphrey said.
Our Club is continuing with our series of RV Industry Workshops with 20 members of the Warialda community region attending workshops at the Warialda Golf & Bowling Club at Warialda, NSW last night. The workshops, focussing on how communities can capture the burgeoning RV market, were presented by our Club at the request of the Gwydir Shire Council.
A further workshop will be presented tonight at 6pm at the Roxy Theatre at Bingara.
These workshops can be rolled out as and where required and each one can be specifically designed to cater for the community where the presentation will be made.
