One of Australia’s largest RV Clubs, the Australian Caravan Club (ACC), today welcomed the announcement of the opening of a further freedom camping area at Currabubula by the Liverpool Plains Shire Council Mayor Cr Andrew Hope.
The freedom camping area is located at the Recreation Ground in Maitland Street, Currabubula.
‘This initiative is another great achievement of the Liverpool Plains Shire Council (LPSC),’ said ACC National Deputy Chairman Tom Smith. ‘I am sure that RVers will make good use of this great facility and support local businesses during their stay.’
Mr Smith joined the LPSC Mayor Cr Hope, LPSC Councillors, members of the Currabubula Pony Club and the wider Currabubula Community at the official opening. The facility, which allows a stay of up to 72 hours, has hot showers and flushing toilets for which patrons are asked to make a small donation.
‘The ACC was pleased to have been involved in the development of the LPSC Recreational Vehicle Strategy.’
At the opening, Mr Smith presented Cr Hope with an ACC RVSTAY sign for display at the Currabubula Recreation Ground freedom camping area.
‘Credit goes to the LPSC for being so forward thinking and for opening up economic opportunities for its local businesses in this way.’
‘Benefits have already been seen within the Shire since the opening of the freedom camp at Willow Tree which is now being used by many RVers. RVers have been telling me that they have been eating out at the Willow Tree Bowling Club and at the restaurant at the Willow Tree Pub.’
‘The ACC encourage our members using freedom camps to give back to the areas providing these camps by supporting local businesses wherever possible.’
‘I am sure the Currabubula local community and its surrounding area will reap the economic rewards from the increased business that RVers staying at the freedom camp will bring,’ Mr Smith said.
Australian Caravan Club (ACC) National Chairman Craig Humphrey has welcomed the announcement of improved mobile phone coverage in parts of regional Queensland, under a joint Commonwealth-State Government funding arrangement.
The townships of Injinoo, Ayton, and Cape Tribulation in Far North Queensland, locations in remote western shires such as Cloncurry, and Kholo and Wongawallan in South-East Queensland, will benefit from the funding as new and improved mobile base stations are delivered.
‘RVers can encounter all sorts of problems including health issues and vehicle breakdowns while on their travels,’ said Mr Humphrey. ‘Many RVers conduct business while on the road, and of course many need to keep in touch with families at home.’
‘Members of the ACC and I am sure all RVers, will welcome this announcement knowing they will be able to have greater mobile coverage for their mobile phones and other digital devices.’
‘This is definitely a move in the right direction. I look forward to the day when RVers can travel without the worry that in an emergency, they may not have mobile phone coverage,’ Mr Humphrey said.
By giving an Australian Caravan Club (ACC) One Year Membership Gift Certificate, you are not only giving membership to the friendliest and best RV Club in Australia, but also giving the many benefits that membership of the ACC has to offer.

The recipient of your Membership Gift Certificate will have the opportunity to join one of our 43 social branches and attend annual national musters where members from around Australia share their RV-ing experiences and attend educational sessions.
They will be entitled to receive discounts from a large number of accommodation providers, and discounts and benefits from non-accommodation member benefit providers.

The Hopetoun Courier caught up with the ACC Bushrangers at their Christmas Muster on the shores of Lake Lascelles in Hopetoun Victoria.
The members were in twenty vans and one cabin and we signed up four new members (2 vans) to the Club while we were there. The branch contributed a little over $5,000 to the local economy.
