One of the complaints we often hear is the lack of Freedom Camps on the outskirts of Sydney.
The good news for RVers wishing to base themselves in Sydney’s South West for a couple of days is that the Warragamba RV Short Stay free site has opened. You will recognise the name as Warragamba Dam is the source of Sydney’s water supply.
Situated within the Warragamba Recreation Reserve the site is part of a 12 month trial and evaluation by Wollondilly Shire Council. Self-contained motorhomes, caravans and campervans that meet the guidelines (RV must “have the capacity for holding fresh, grey and black water within the confines of the RV”) may stay for two nights with free access to a dump point, waste bins, BBQ’s and potable water. During daylight hours access to toilets is available. The parklands are locked after sun down each evening.
For RVers after-hours access is via a boom gate. There are only eight RV sites available. Sites cannot be pre-booked. It is a first in, first position basis. For this reason upon arrival it is necessary to register (telephone) the Council’s after-hours service provider to ascertain availability. It’s a short walk to town for café’s, restaurants and the local Workers Club.
